Dynasty Call Ups to Consider Before the Season Ends
Author: Broc Maples
For many of you playing Fantasy Baseball, playoffs are quickly approaching. At this point you are already thinking about next season or you are trying to make one final push for the playoff seed you want. While it may be tempting to give up or focus too narrowly on the weeks in front of you, this is also the time to consider prospects that are brought up late in the season. Some may be different, but most leagues will shut down waiver claims after the season is over. If there are prospects that you must have before they hit the open market next year, now is the time to go out and get them. This article is going to look at the Offensive Prospects to consider for deep/mixed Dynasty Leagues. Roster numbers are according to Yahoo Fantasy.
Bobby Witt Jr. SS, Kansas City Royals
Currently rostered in 19% of leagues, Witt Jr. looks to be getting the call up to the majors soon. The 21 year old saw 350 at bats this year with Triple-A Omaha claiming 20 stolen bases, 68 runs, 25 home runs, and 71 runs batted in. Needless to say, he has been crushing it this year. If he produces for the Royals, this rookie could impact several weekly categories for your team.
Renato Núñez 1B, Detroit Tigers
Currently playing with the Tigers, the 27 year old is only rostered in 1% of leagues at the moment. With Triple-A Toledo this season, he is batting .291 with 20 home runs and 64 runs batted in. While only boasting a .200 AVG with the Tigers over 46 plate appearances he already has 4HR/7RBI over nine games. If he keeps playing like this, the Tigers are going to seriously consider keeping him around for good.
EDIT: Núñez has been DFA’d by the Tigers. He should be snatched up quickly on waivers.
Brent Rooker OF, Minnesota Twins
He spent most of the season in the minors, but now has 117 at bats with the Twins this year. He still has some work to do as far as improving on defense according to the Twins, but if he can put it together, the offense should speak for itself. Just in the last week he is 8/21 with 6R/2HR/4RBI. This is another player who is only 26 years old and rostered in 1% of leagues.
Kevin Smith INF/SS, Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto purchased the contract from Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday. With Toronto making a push at an AL Wild Card spot, they are hoping Smith can give them an offensive jolt. In Triple-A Buffalo this season, Smith earned a call up by batting .286 with 53R/19HR/63RBI. Listed as a SS only right now, the Blue Jays claim he should see starts in various positions going forward. The 25 year old is also only rostered in 1% of leagues.
Yohel Pozo C, Texas Rangers
This year in Triple-A, Pozo was batting a massive .337 over 273 at bats. Just called up this week, Pozo is listed at 0% rostered in Yahoo leagues. He has started each game since being brought up on the 13th. Hitting 19HR/63RBI in the minors this year he is already 4/15 with 1HR/3RBI with the Rangers. Currently listed as a utility player he should get the catcher designation by the end of the season.
These are some deep dives. Let’s be real, if you are reading this, you are looking to take a chance on a flyer. As the season comes to a conclusion, more players should get call ups so we’ll check back next week and see if we can add some names to this list.
